Role About the role

A new and exciting opportunity to work as a fundamental part of the People Team, supporting colleagues through theirtime with Sustrans.

The purpose of the role is to strengthen our colleagues' voice, building the organisation's capability to positivelymanage colleague relations, supporting Sustrans in building colleagues' trust and engagement and leadingcolleague relations to ensure we are a charity for everyone.

The role will develop and implement a colleague relations strategy that aligns with Sustrans' goals, values, andlegal requirements.

As the Head of Colleague Relations, you will be instrumental in maximising the colleague experience. You will linemanage a team of three People Advisors to provide coaching and expert advice to line managers on policies, legalrequirements, processes and best practice.

You will work closely with the wider Human Resources teams, legal counsel and senior management to address complexemployee relation issues and provide expert advice and recommendations

You will help lead Sustrans in developing a positive relationship and ways of working with our newly recognised unionand reconstituted colleague forum, helping lead negotiations and being a key contact in this exciting newrelationship.

You will support organisational change, develop and implement initiatives to enhance employee engagement,satisfaction, and retention and ensure our policies are modern, valued and inclusive.

This role does not involve regular travel. We may occasionally need you travel during your work including occasionalovernight stays.

About you

You should have experience of leading a colleague relations team in managing complex case work, as well as changemanagement and supporting organisations through change.

You will need experience of working in a unionised environment, and of building relationships and managingnegotiations in line with a recognition agreement.

You will need a good understanding of colleague engagement and practices and experience of developing people policiesand procedures.

You will be educated to CIPD level 5 and be passionate about progressing the EDI agenda.

As The National Partnership Manager, you will report directly to the Head of Strategic Partnerships & BusinessDevelopment function for Scotland. You will manage a team of embedded Senior Project Officers working within thepartner national organisations and delivering in partnership with a broad range of local stakeholders to developand deliver local Active Travel Strategies, Visions and Plans.

You will work closely with colleagues to secure funding for our work, capturing and communicating the impacts ofbetter places for people. You will ensure our for everyone values - to strengthen diversity and inclusion acrossthe charity, whilst ensuring that a more systematic approach to the embedding of our 'for everyone' principlespermeates through our work.

You will advocate for sustainable transport across the region, and you will use that platform to influence localdecision makers, through engaging in policy and planning work, leading on communications, and contributing to acoordinated approach to business development opportunities in Scotland.

You will build and manage internal and external relationships with key people across governance tiers within nationalpartner organizations. You will work with internal and external partners to build the team's knowledge andcapacity around inclusive programme design and delivery. In this respect, working to ensure that our partnershipprogrammes are for everyone and do not have unintended consequences for disadvantaged population groups.

This role will require travel and work at locations as necessary to undertake projects on behalf of Sustrans.

About you

You should be an experienced leader, expert at developing and maintaining relationships at senior levels in a varietyof sectors e.g. National organizations, Local Authority, business and industry bodies. You should have linemanagement experience and substantial experience of project management, including budget management.

You must have the ability to communicate authoritatively and persuasively to a range of audiences, with demonstrableexperience of remote and face-to-face partnership development techniques.
