Trainee Electrical or Mechanical Project Engineer - Cambridgeshire

Our early careers programme is a great opportunity to study towards a college or university qualification while putting everything you have learnt into action through on-the-job training.

Working alongside experienced Engineers & Project Managers, you will be part of the management team that oversees the installation of electrical and mechanical packages such as lighting, power, distribution boards, transformers, heating, ventilation and other services needed to bring a building to life.

Working environment:

You will work on our RAF Molesworth project in Cambridgeshire

This is an DIO (Defence Infrastructure Organisation), acting on behalf of the US Air Force where the team will develop the new two-storey military facility along with supporting infrastructure and a warehouse. You will be an integral part of our Building Services delivery team where you will learn how to implement Mechanical and Electrical Building Services design principles. As you develop your skills, there will be scope for you to progress your career within the region and wider business.

What you'll learn:
  • Put together a detailed construction program & monitor site progress of the sub-contractors who are employed by Skanska to carry out the mechanical and electrical installation.
  • Develop & implement safe standards of work, learn how to communicate with operatives, colleagues & client representatives.
  • Implementation of digital technologies is an important part of the construction industry and utilising digital technologies enables Skanska to be efficient in the working methods that are implemented throughout the life cycle of the project.
  • You will learn CAD (computer aided system) and BIM (building information modelling) software.
  • Building Services covers not only the electrical aspect of an installation but also the mechanical aspect. This includes, Heating & Ventilation, Air Conditioning & Public Health. You will learn the principles of these systems & how they integrate with each other to ensure efficiencies with the design, installation & the working life cycle of the systems.
  • Assist with mechanical elements of installation such as, estimating and tenders in the pre-construction stage
Who you are:
  • You should hold 5 GSCEs including Maths and English grade 4 or above for us to successfully enrol you on the apprenticeship.
  • Keen to learn various digital systems and software
  • Enjoy studying Maths and Physics
  • Eager to work in a team and solve engineering challenges
  • Curious and enthusiastic to learn
  • Reliable
  • You must have lived in the UK in the last 3 years and have the right to work in the UK to be eligible for an apprenticeship. We are not able to proceed with applications that require visa sponsorship.
  • We are not able to proceed with applications from candidates that have already achieved a degree in any discipline.
