Berneslai Homes has an exciting opportunity for an Assessments Team Leader to join their team based at Gateway Plaza in Barnsley with the ability to work agilely. You will join us on a full time, permanent basis, and in return, you will receive a competitive salary of £40,221 to £43,421 per annum.

The Assessments Team Leader role:

We have an exciting opportunity for an Assessments Team Leader to join our Lettings service!

As our Assessments Team Leader, you ll support the delivery of Barnsley Council s Homeseeker Lettings policy and management of the Housing Register through the effective leadership of a team of Assessment Officers.

Key duties and responsibilities of our Assessments Team Leader:

  • Ensure a consistent, high-quality service is delivered by the Assessment Team by planning and aligning resource to meet the demands of the service. This includes annual leave, sickness, training, and agile working arrangements.
  • Adopt a proactive approach to developing your team by adopting a coaching style to identify and address area of weakness and / or under performance.
  • Manage the health and safety of staff under your direct supervision, or the wider team in the absence of the Lettings Manager, i.e., completing risk assessments, developing, and ensuring staff follow safe systems of work etc.
  • Responsibility for the assessment of housing applications in line with the Homeseeker Policy, procedures, our legal duties, and wider organisational responsibilities. This includes completing or co-ordinating home visits, ensuring relevant evidence is obtained and validated to deliver consistent, thorough, and fair decisions.
  • Ensure excellent customer service and clear communication with applicants to manage expectation and offer high quality housing advice.
  • Manage an effective partnership with BMBC Housing Options Service to ensure a proactive approach to preventing homelessness.
  • Make decisions and/or give supervisory guidance to own or other teams/partners on complex or sensitive cases.
  • Manage the review and appeal processes in line with policy and legal duties and ensure complaints and member enquiries are managed in line with policy and procedure.
  • Develop and manage a quality control and audit process aligned to the assessment of Housing Applications and the housing register.

What we re looking for in our Assessments Team Leader:

  • Level 5 qualification in a relevant subject or extensive and relevant experience
  • The ability to motivate self and others to make balanced, objective, and difficult decisions in a high-pressured environment.
  • Experience working in social housing and /or equivalent knowledge, with the ability to interpret and apply policy and law.
  • Experience working on change projects, i.e., development and implementation of policies and procedures, experience of engaging and bringing along teams in a changing and challenging environment.
  • Experience in supervising and motivating others with a positive attitude, ensuring your own and your team s continued development of service area knowledge, ability, and best practice.
  • The ability to interpret workloads and manage resources to ensure a consistent, high-quality service provision
