About the CMA

We help people, businesses, and the UK economy by promoting competitive markets and tackling unfair behaviour. Our work is wide ranging, ambitious and often new and challenging.

The CMA Cartels Enforcement Team play a key role by uncovering and investigating hardcore cartel agreements and abuses of dominant positions. Our investigations vary greatly in subject and are generally high-profile and analytically challenging.

The role

As Casework Support Manager you will be responsible for supporting a variety of CMA cases and the day-to-day management, supervision and development of Casework Support Officers.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing the management of documents (paper and electronic) for cases and investigations
  • MMaintaining task allocation spreadsheets and project plans/trackers
  • aking and recording assessments on confidentiality of information
  • Logging correspondence and evidence
  • Preparing case files for inspection by external parties
  • Acting as an initial point of contact for a range of internal and external stakeholders, such as witnesses, parties to investigations, police, and other government departments

Other aspects of the role will vary with different cases but may include drafting documents and correspondence, supporting research and the analysis of evidence.

You will have direct responsibility for managing, training and supporting the development of Casework Support Officers, ensuring they are actively supported in developing their knowledge and experience and trained in accordance with casework guides.

You will also support the planning, preparation and execution of investigation steps. This will include preparing and participating in on-site inspections and ensuring that evidence handling procedures are properly observed and acting as a key point of contact for case teams.

What you will need

Previous legal experience is not essential for this role. What is important is experience of using organisational systems and procedures for case or document management as well as an understanding of handling confidential information.

You will need excellent organisation, planning and time management skills to deliver results with limited resources, within challenging deadlines, as well as the ability to line manage and support the development of more junior team members.

Experience of carrying out in-depth analysis of documents, with the ability to identify breaches of guidance and identify confidential information is equally important.
