Overview

You'll support the Pen CEO in the day-to-day running of a £940m GWP business, both internally and externally. You'll drive the operational strategy as well as the development and delivery of our long-term business growth plan. You'll also have the leadership accountability for business integration, operational change, process improvement and the implementation of effective operational governance and controls.

This is not just a Pen role; this role forms part of the UK and global COO community for Gallagher and the role holder will be expected to be an active member of that team.

How you'll make an impact

You'll be the key stakeholder for our IT, Real Estate, Compliance and Risk teams for Pen. Our business is growing at pace and is evolving into an increasingly complex and sophisticated business. You'll work in partnership with our CFO, CDO and CUO to ensure alignment in respect of financial efficiency, underwriting performance and strive to deliver robust strategies and systems to support the business.

You'll be responsible for driving continuous improvement for customers and colleagues, working with senior members of the business, US stakeholders and third parties, where appropriate, to ensure the delivery of the UK strategic and annual business plans adhering to Company and regulatory requirements whilst appropriately meeting the needs of customers, the regulator, colleagues, and US stakeholders.

You'll also be responsible for supporting the delivery of the required financial performance against targets and for building a strong business partnering model to support other functions to enable the effective delivery of the business strategy.


How you'll make an impact

Technical Knowledge

  • Operational knowledge of insurance-related business, preferably in the insurance/reinsurance sector and able to demonstrate broad strategic insight
  • Knowledge of general insurance products, services, and classes of insurance including underlying legal principles and practices relating to risk within own role capacity desired
  • Knowledge of, and exposure to, business transformation process.
  • Knowledge of FCA regulations

Experience and Skills

  • Proven track record in programme change and project management and has successfully taken a business through change, has operated in a fast-changing environment
  • Senior-level people development and management experience essential
  • Business acumen experience in commerciality and risk awareness
  • Ability to build rapport, establish credibility, engage and influence stakeholders at all levels, internally and externally
  • Results-oriented mindset with a drive for growth
  • High degree of self-awareness and self-management
  • Able to articulate yourself in a way that anyone can understand, either verbally or in writing
  • Experience working in a global, matrix-managed organisation, with the utmost integrity and confidentiality
  • Ability to read data packs and spot patterns or potential issues within it
  • Strong sense of self, able to adapt and be flexible, willing to challenge constructively
  • Demonstrates high-level ownership and accountability
