Quantity Surveyor - Rail/Civil Engineering Asset Management

Location: Rutherglen, South Lanarkshire (Scotland)

A fantastic opportunity awaits an experienced Quantity Surveyor eager to advance their professional journey and enhance their skills and experience in a dynamic rail and civil engineering project environment. This role involves managing the commercial performance of the Rutherglen Depot within the Civils Asset Management (CAM) rail maintenance Framework.

Business Unit: Immerse yourself in a vibrant and dynamic project environment encompassing a range of multi-disciplinary civil engineering projects. Our clientele includes Local Authorities, Network Rail, Environmental agencies, and private developers.

Projects encompass diverse civil engineering works and infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges, footbridges, tunnels, underbridges, flood alleviation/repairs, embankments, and rail platforms. Currently, we are actively engaged in infrastructure projects and ongoing renewals and maintenance frameworks, including Civils Asset Management (CAM), Renewals Enhancement Framework (REF), and a slab track framework.

The Role: As a Quantity Surveyor, you will be a key member of the commercial team, supporting Commercial Managers and Senior Quantity Surveyors in the daily commercial management of contracts within our portfolio of civil engineering and rail projects. This role demands a seasoned professional capable of handling fast-paced, high-volume work.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the commercial team to support Senior Quantity Surveyors and Commercial Managers in the efficient and budget-conscious commercial management of multiple sites.
  • Price and ensure the accurate and timely submission of estimates.
  • Resolve pricing issues with clients.
  • Facilitate client liaison.
  • Work closely with Site Managers to gather information on day-to-day remits.
  • Manage subcontractors effectively.
  • Handle change management and early warnings.
  • Administer contracts following NEC/NR forms of contract.
  • Prepare Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs).
  • Manage final accounting.

Requirements: To excel in this role, you should have:

  • Relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying/Commercial Management - HNC/HND/Degree.
  • Contractual experience with NEC or bespoke NR forms of contract.
  • Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor in a contracting environment.
