Design Engineer

• 40,000-£45,000 DOE

Adept Resourcing have been retained by a South Yorkshire based business within the auto motive industry and are looking to recruit a Design Engineer to be based in Doncaster. This is a very hands-on position, demanding high levels of creativity and flexibility and it comes with excellent prospects to progress within the group.

The role:

Reporting to the Design Engineering manager, this role offers a great opportunity to support the design engineering tasks across multiple emergency and specialist vehicle conversion projects, from concept phase through to physical delivery of a product which meets safety, quality, cost, and lead time requirements.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Produce both high level and detailed vehicle designs, based on customer, company and regulatory requirements, using computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-assisted engineering (CAE) software.
  • Analyse the design proposals and the technical information in order to identify the issues arising during product development, defining and implementing adequate solutions in order to reach a feasible proposal with a high form and aesthetic quality.
  • Provide support across the Group and ensure that all aspects of CAD design are created to fully meet the high specifications set for each conversion;
  • Design systems, processes, methodologies as well as component and vehicle designs to enhance the overall vehicle performance for the customer and environment;
  • Transform concepts into prototypes for testing, validating and improvement; ultimately for volume production;
  • Follow principles of eco-design methodologies to reduce vehicle weight, increase fuel efficiency and ensure minimal environmental impact at end of life.
  • Ensure the success of the design from inception through to delivery into manufacture, using innovative engineering skills to ensure seamless integration;
  • Carry out simulations of products for new and prototype projects using in house software for the customer and provide support and feedback on design;
  • Control of Bill of Materials (BoM), CAD Models and Engineering Drawings;
  • Actively contribute to Design Reviews, Build Readiness Reviews and Change Control Boards
  • Conduct benchmarking studies to determine best practices/designs and future trends;

Experience/ Skills:

  • Graduate in a discipline such as Mechanical Engineering, Manufacture Engineering, or Product Design. Other degree disciplines may also be considered.
  • Able to evidence how you have applied your technical knowledge to solve problems, either through relevant experience, through your university projects or as part of your extra-curricular activities.
  • Be happy to build your own networks to learn from the technical expertise around you.
  • Have the ability to demonstrate an understanding of general engineering principles.
  • Be assertive, optimistic, resilient and welcoming change.
  • Have a creative, logical approach for generating new ideas and solutions.
  • Have a sound knowledge of computer aided design (CAD) software, technical drawings and 3D modelling, ideally with SolidWorks
