We are working closely with a well-established medium-sized main contractor based in London that is after a design manager to join the team to work specifically on heritage projects. With a strong focus on preserving and enhancing historic structures, they take pride in delivering high-quality construction services. As they continue to grow, they are seeking a talented and experienced Design Manager to join their team.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Project Management:

    • Lead and manage the design process for heritage projects from post-tender through to completion.
    • Collaborate with internal teams, architects, and external stakeholders to ensure smooth project progression.
    • Monitor project timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Listed Buildings Expertise:

    • Demonstrate a deep understanding of working with listed buildings and Grade II structures.
    • Navigate and comply with regulatory requirements related to heritage projects.
  • Team Coordination:

    • Effectively communicate design concepts and requirements to the project team.
    • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and contractors to align design goals with construction objectives.
  • Risk Management:

    • Identify and mitigate design-related risks throughout the construction process.
    • Implement proactive measures to address potential challenges.
  • Quality Assurance:

    • Oversee the design to ensure it meets the specified standards and aligns with heritage preservation guidelines.
    • Conduct regular design reviews to uphold quality and compliance.
  • Client Engagement:

    • Engage with clients to understand their vision and requirements for heritage projects.
    • Provide design solutions that meet client expectations while adhering to heritage preservation principles.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Design Manager within a main contractor environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in working on listed buildings and Grade II structures.
  • In-depth knowledge of the heritage project construction process from post-tender through to completion.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and preservation guidelines for heritage projects.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to lead and coordinate multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with internal teams, clients, and external stakeholders.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet project demands.
  • Relevant qualifications in design or construction management.
