Position: Director of Community and Place

Location: Gloucester/hybrid (plus some time in the Forest Hub in Cinderford)

Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours, job share/flexible working considered

Salary: £40,000 - £45,000 (plus pension)

Contract: Permanent

The Role

This new and exciting role will lead the development of local Music Hubs, working with young people and a team of staff and volunteers to put on exciting all year-round music programmes.

You will lead this place-based work that will:

  • Develop Gloucester and Forest of Dean Music Hubs as vibrant, youth-led creative centres that change young lives in the places they live
  • Integrate these Hubs into surrounding communities through outreach on the Music Bus, in schools, and community partnerships
  • Have overarching project management responsibility of place-based programmes
  • Create partnerships in youth, cultural, and educational sectors, emphasising music s role in developing a place and empowering young voices to influence local strategy
  • Lead the place-based team

Key areas of responsibilities include:

  • Vision and strategy
  • Programme management and development
  • Place-based partnerships
  • Line management
  • Funding and business development (supported by the fundraising team)
  • Strategic leadership (the role is part of the strategic leadership team)

About You

We are particularly keen to hear from people from Gloucester or the Forest of Dean, as this new and exciting role will lead the development of these local Hubs within each community, working with a range of local partners. You don t need to be a musician (although it s fine if you are), but you need to be experienced working with young people, developing, managing and influencing programmes at a community level.

You will have:

  • Leadership experience: demonstrated track record in senior leadership roles, specifically in areas of youth and community engagement, with proven success in team management and programme development
  • Strategic vision: strong strategic thinker with the ability to develop and execute long-term plans
  • Stakeholder engagement: exceptional communication, negotiation and relationship-building skills
  • Budget management: proficiency in budget management
  • Project management: extensive experience in project management
  • Inclusivity: a strong commitment to inclusivity and experience in engaging hard-to-reach or marginalised youth and community groups
  • Passion for empowerment: a genuine passion for empowering and positively impacting youth, people with disability and communities
  • Understanding of local context: a good understanding of existing community activity

They are young-people led and use music as an engagement and transformative tool to support young people from challenging circumstances to thrive in their lives. Working with a really broad range of young people including those who are disabled, have mental health challenges, have been (or still are) involved in knife crime and anti-social behaviour, those who have been excluded, those who are NEET and many more in short any young person who has barriers to thriving.
