About the Role

Working Pattern: Permanent Full Time Flexible First options available
The Finance Business Partner is focused on performance improvement, business analysis and insight, strategic business planning, budgeting, and forecasting activities. Working in a matrix structure, this role will provide timely and effective support and challenge to senior business stakeholders, as well as maintaining responsibility for the delivery of 5 and 10 year plans.
This role will also be responsible for management accounting, reporting and financial control in relation to specific high value P&L (Green Certificates) and balance sheet items (IT fixed assets) and will be responsible for the accurate forecasting of these items and preparation of variance analysis for monthly reporting.
The role will also support the Finance Director in providing finance engagement and challenge to Energy Markets papers and reviewing investment cases. The successful candidate will be involved in the preparation of the subsidiary accounts for the Energy Markets directorate and engagement will also be required to support Finance Transformation project activities.
Subject to the successful candidate experience, the role may involve line manager responsibility for an Assistant Accountant to aid in the preparation of the management accounting and control activities noted above.
Key responsibilities for this role include:
- Performance Improvement - Provide pro-active challenge to the business on financial performance to drive improvements and define management reporting requirements to inform decision making.
- Strategic Business Planning - Advise and influence the business on strategic planning activities from a finance perspective. Responsible for the preparation of long term forecast models.
- Business Analysis & Insight - Support Finance Director to provide finance insight and challenge to senior management.
- Budgeting & Forecasting - Coordinate the preparation and review of the annual business unit budget and monthly/ quarterly forecasting activities for agreed areas of P&L and Balance Sheet responsibility. Ensure budgets are accurate, realistic, and aligned with the broader business unit.
- Reporting - Deliver reporting and variance analysis for areas of P&L and Balance Sheet responsibility and support group level reporting and external audit requirements.
- Financial Control - Implementation, documentation, operation, and review of finance controls for areas of responsibility, ensuring that these align with standards of wider group financial control matrix.
What do I need?
To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:
- Full accounting qualification with 3+ years PQE in a Business Partner/ Finance Manager/ Management Accountant business facing role with experience of solving business issues of similar scale and complexity.
- Experience interpreting and assimilating multiple data sources, including external market data, and rendering this into meaningful insight and appropriate recommendations with clear actions.
- Ability to effectively communicate financial performance to operational colleagues to embed financial understanding within the business.
- Ability to manage multiple complex projects/ processes simultaneously.
- Overall, the candidate should be operationally and commercially focused. An understanding of the UK Energy Market is beneficial however not essential.
