Your new companyA highly ambitious niche construction company has exciting plans for 2024 and are hence recruiting a Head of Commercial, and they operate within Groundworks, Civil Engineering & infrastructure. This SME business needs a departmental head to lead a small team and support the Commercial Director in new business ventures. This business has a flexible, supportive environment that encourages and empowers employees to be self-managed and innovate. Based in smart-friendly offices, in this commercial role you are only required to be in the office once a month if you wish. However, you may have to attend various national commercial meetings across the country (Surrey, Kent, London and Middlesex) when required.This business is growing from a strong base, having been established for over 90 years.

Your new roleAs Head of Commercial you will report to the Commercial Operations Director, and be responsible for helping to drive sales activity, reviewing new contracts and business wins. This is an all round commercial role, overseeing a small commercial team which sits alongside a traditional finance team. You will ensure that current contracts and future projects are profitable, as well as help win new contracts.Key duties include:Manage the QS's, and commercial managers.Analyse the sales activities, KPI's, bids, tenders, quantity surveying contracts, WIP and future pipelines Analyse sales statistics to determine opportunities for business growth/ budget seething & controls to message progress.Provide leadership to the day-to-day operations of the external commercial team, while maintaining focus on the company's strategic goals.Develop / maintain and improve business relations with all customersCollaborate closely with the Operations to develop new products and services.Resolve contractual and commercial problems both internal and external to the company.

What you'll need to succeedYou will be a qualified quantity surveyor with construction experience with main contractors with strong business partnership and WIP experience.You will be able to provide a list of successes and achievements in revenue-based jobs with strong connections to sales and projects.You will have the ability to work closely with customers, with excellent presentation and analysis skills.You must have a provable record of achievements in commercial management of projects or teams within the construction industry using the NEC form of contract within the construction, infrastructure, civil engineering or transport sectors.
