About the Project:

The A428 Black Cat to Caxton Gibbet is a £750 million improvement scheme commencing main construction towards the latter part of 2022 and with an open to traffic date of 2026. The scheme involves the creation of a new three tier junction at the existing Black Cat roundabout, over 10 miles of new dual carriageway along with 17 structures to be created, one of which is a viaduct over the Great River Ouse. There is interface with services ranging from high pressure gas pipeline to 400 KV overhead lines.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced safety professional to work in a collaborative environment influencing and leading on all aspects of health and safety performance.

You'll:
  • Understand the Company Health & Safety and wellbeing Policies and Procedures and statutory requirements as they affect the Project operations and ensure that the requirements are implemented.
  • Provide operational and functional management with advice on the prevention of accidents, ill health, and the practical implementation of the company's SHW policies.
  • Assist the Project Manager or Project SHW Manager in preparing and developing the Project Construction Phase Health & Safety Plan & coordinate reviews as required.
  • Undertake site SHW inspections as required. Participate as requested in "Company" SHW Audit and inspections.
  • Maintain the health and safety competency matrix of the scheme.
  • Advise on the assessment and appointment of sub-contractors.
  • Assist where necessary with tenders and presentations to external bodies.
  • When requested, advise on the preparation of SHW risk assessments and Method Statements.
  • Ensure that appropriate Project SHW performance is monitored, and reports are provided as required by the SHW Manager, and Project Manager.
  • Assist in the investigation of accidents, incidents, dangerous occurrences, near misses and other incidents where appropriate. Monitor and coordinate the close out of the above.
  • Ensure that appropriate Project SHW performance reports are provided as required by the Sector SHW Manager and Project Director.
  • Assist and promote the IFE (Injury Free Environment) programme on the project working closely with IFE Champions.
  • Assist in the preparation and implementation of SHW training courses and ensure that staff with specific SHW responsibilities have received the appropriate training. Organise and deliver relevant SHW Training where required, including Inductions.
  • Give advice and guidance (where required) to the project team on HSW related matters
  • Set standards and lead by example in the management of SHW
  • Support when the project is liaising with the HSE and other enforcing agencies.
  • Maintain own level of knowledge and competency in relation to SHW management and responsibilities including appropriate qualification and professional membership.
  • Obtain competency cards in line with company Competence Card Compliance policy, e.g. CSCS / EUSR.
  • Assistance with innovation and best practice implementation, write up and communication.
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a fast paced dynamic environment.
We're looking for:
  • Minimum 2 years SHW related experience
  • NEBOSH Construction Certificate or NEBOSH General certificate or equivalent NVQ
  • Relevant SHW experiences within construction is desirable but not exclusive to construction, a similar high risk industry would be considered
  • Grad IOSH or AIEMA or equivalent
  • Driving Licence
