Job Description
Department Overview
Brookfield's European Property Group (BPG) oversees $40B of real estate AUM, including Canary Wharf and Center Parcs.
This role will be a critical member of a small tax team overseeing a number of investments in Europe.
Responsibilities:
- Assisting with the management of the quarterly tax European provision process under IFRS (or relevant GAAP). Includes owning the preparation and/or review of quarterly tax provisions.
- Management of and liaison with external auditors for tax matters; including preparation and/or review of tax accounting figures and tax disclosures for statutory accounts purposes.
- Management of external tax compliance service providers for companies in the UK and Europe.
- Ensuring good tax governance, e.g. compliance with transfer pricing, SAO, CbCr, CCO, DAC6 and risk management policies.
- Onboarding of investments to implement good tax governance, reporting and compliance.
- Research ad hoc technical tax issues and drafting of technical notes to support tax positions claimed.
- Keep up to date on tax changes and understand the implications for Brookfield Property Group Europe.
- Provide advice in respect of ad-hoc tax matters impacting the European property group, including VAT, Stamp Duty, CIS.
- Support with the ongoing transition of the group's tax technology projects.
- Provide ongoing tax business partnering support to Finance, Legal and other corporate functions.
- Partner with US and Canadian tax colleagues to ensure that US and Canadian tax considerations are incorporated throughout the European investments.
Skills and Experience Requirements:
In order to qualify, the following minimum requirements should be met:
- Qualified accountant with at least 5 years tax experience in a top 40 accounting firm, law firm and/or in industry with a multinational corporate group.
- Strong technical knowledge of tax rules and experience in corporate tax compliance, tax planning and tax risk assessment.
- Able to communicate complex tax matter and issues in a clear and concise manner.
- Strong writing and presentation skills.
- Ability to multi-task and work in a very fast-paced and team-oriented environment.
- Excellent project management skills and applies a pragmatic and efficient approach to handling complex assignments.
- Experience of UK REITs or real estate tax an advantage.
