Description
We are looking for an experienced and organised editor to take charge of Mining Technology url removed and its two associated monthly magazines, MINE and MINE Australia. The successful candidate will be one of three editors - the other two heading up Power and Offshore - leading GlobalData s energy editorial team. All three are expected to cooperate closely.
Responsibilities
You will be responsible for commissioning - and in part, writing - daily news and features. The primary team is in-house but features also involves freelance writers. You will help lead a daily news meeting and support a small team of writers to find and research their stories. You will edit news and liaise with a central team of sub-editors to get copy finalised and published. You will manage the site's homepage for timeliness and impact.
You will also work with the writers to prepare copy for the monthly magazines, making sure this is in line with business priorities. You will liaise with design and sales teams on format and content.
Other responsibilities include promoting the team s output through daily newsletters and social media. You will also be expected to familiarise yourself with GlobalData s business processes and work flow, and help optimise these - together with the Power and Offshore editors - for the energy team. You will sit in on relevant company meetings to represent your team and its products. This includes reaching out to and developing relationships with GlobalData s energy and mining analysts, with a view to using GD data as a source for stories. You will also work with sales and marketing on for example media partnerships.
The ideal candidate will have some knowledge of the mining/energy sector and be able to guide pitches and research. You will be responsible for setting the editorial tone and agenda for Mining. You may help out with sub-editing when needed. As the direct manager of at least two writers, you will also be responsible for managing them, including evaluating their performance. You - together with the Power and Offshore editors - will lead the hiring of new staff for the energy team as required. You will attend regular meetings with company managers to learn about the general direction of the company, communicate this to the team and determine how best to meet these objectives.
What we re looking for
Candidates are required to have several years of experience, with at least some journalism and management experience. Strong organisational/project management skills are a must. Any B2B and/or magazine publishing experience is desirable. Knowledge of or expertise in the energy/mining sector is desirable. Skill and experience in platforms such as WordPress, HubSpot, and h5 is preferable. We are looking for a candidate who is curious, competent, organised and motivated to help build out a small, relatively inexperienced team into a world-class reporting unit.
