Portfolio Manager for Transformative Technologies: Open-ended

Main responsibilities:
Contributing to the development and implementation of BBSRC's strategy and policy in Transformative Technologies, with a specific focus on Technology Development in the Biosciences and implementing the outcomes of the recent review.
Leading on BBSRC's annual Transformative Research Technologies funding opportunity.
Managing BBSRC's technology development portfolio, which will entail working across BBSRC's scientific remit and with other Research Councils across UKRI.
Horizon scanning for the next emerging technologies originating from within the biosciences or translating from other disciplines.

Portfolio Manager Role Description

The Portfolio Manager role is diverse and dynamic, providing the opportunity to undertake a wide range of activities, the focus of which may vary to meet key priorities and foster/respond to new opportunities for example:
Providing scientific and policy support into the development and implementation of BBSRC strategy, maintaining awareness of key issues and opportunities within your area of responsibility.
Acting as the first point of contact for the scientific community for the relevant area, along with engaging with the wider research and innovation community.
Facilitating the work of BBSRC's advisory panels.
Developing and managing programmes of research investment, working with colleagues to support their delivery including the peer review process.
Monitoring and analysing BBSRC's strategy and portfolio of investments, including undertaking periodic evaluation of activities.
Providing advice and briefing to senior colleagues, the research and innovation community, government and other stakeholders on BBSRC strategy, programmes and policies.
Representing BBSRC by liaising and collaborating with other UKRI partners, funding organisations, academic and industry stakeholders in the UK and internationally.

Position and Person Requirements

_Essential:_
Strong analytical and writing skills, including the ability to interpret, summarise and present complex information for different audiences (S&I).
An ability to work flexibly as part of a team to successfully deliver projects (S&I).
Effective communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with and influence colleagues and external stakeholders with diverse expertise and backgrounds (S&I).
Previous relevant experience and/or a degree in a scientific subject. (S).
An ability to plan and prioritise your work, manage complex activities and meet deadlines (S&I).
Understanding of the aims and objectives of BBSRC and UKRI (I)
Willingness to travel in UK and abroad, including occasional overnight (or longer) absences (I).

_Desirable:_
Previous relevant professional experience and/or postgraduate qualification in a scientific or related subject (S).
Awareness of science policy issues and/or an understanding of research strategy or policy development (S&I).
