RPS is looking for a Principal Consultant ESIA to work closely with our local ESIA teams on client projects to deliver ESIAs to international standards in emerging markets such as Europe and Africa, predominantly for Offshore Wind but also in Energy Transition and Oil & Gas.
This is a permanent position with location in UK, Ireland preferred, but Netherlands and Norway will be considered for the right candidate.
RPS' extensive offshore wind experience includes 20 years at the forefront of the industry, working across the UK, wider Europe, America, Australia and Asia. We have worked on both floating offshore wind and fixed foundation offshore wind projects, and we have deep experience in the provision of a range of technical consultancy and operational support for the energy sector.
What you'll be doing
The Principal Consultant specialises in the management and preparation of ESIAs to International Finance Corporation (IFC) performance standards (PS). The role provides ESIA support to clients to ensure project objectives are met. You will:
Manage and deliver environmental and social impact assessments (ESIAs) in line with IFC PS requirements and accompanying Environmental and Social Management Plans, Environmental and Social Management Systems (ESMS) and Environmental and Social Action Plans (ESAPs) to IFC PS and additional International Financial Institutions (IFI) requirements (e.g., European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) requirements);
Lead and undertake reviews and assessments as part of ESIA to IFC PS including, but not limited to feasibility studies , environmental and social due diligence and appraisals in line with IFC PS and other IFI requirements;
Manage and deliver IFC- compliant baseline survey and monitoring methods;
Manage the delivery of project outputs including scoping reports, impact assessments, due diligence, and periodic monitoring reports and other related technical studies;
Undertake environmental and social due diligence on behalf of private financial institutions;
Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including national regulators and financial institutions;
Ensure health and safety is embedded in project delivery;
Provide direction and input across our international projects;
Provide technical input into proposals; and
Support and lead the identification of new business opportunities.
Who we're looking for
We require the Principal Consultant to hold a relevant Degree in Environmental and/or Social Sciences or similar with a relevant Master's degree being highly desirable.
Your professional profile will include:
Significant experience in managing and preparing environmental and social impact assessments (ESIAs) for major development projects to IFI requirements;
Knowledge of Equator Principal (EP) 4 and IFC PS and demonstrable experience in applying these performance standards is essential, as are ESIA project management skills.
Demonstrable experience preparing ESIA studies and accompanying management plans, in accordance with IFC PS;
Experience in liaising with diverse stakeholders including clients, project managers, engineers, and other project stakeholders;
Experience working closely with infrastructure specialists to ensure that the results of environmental and social studies and activities contribute to the design process and the analysis of alternatives;
Experience of working with a multidisciplinary team;
Willingness to travel in the UK and internationally to perform ESIAs and engage with stakeholders.
Additionally, we are interested in hearing from applicants who have experience of:
Offshore wind energy projects as well as land-based, nearshore, and offshore infrastructure development projects to IFI requirements,
Implementing environmental and social management systems in accordance with IFC PS,
Preparing and winning proposals for ESIA to IFC PS internationally;
Communicating with Government officials, IFI, communities, and other stakeholders;
Assessing potential resettlement requirements, and developing resettlement plans;
Undertaking stakeholder engagement to IFC PS; and
