Project Manager - Sustainability
As the Project Manager (Sustainability) at our airport, I am thrilled to be part of the journey towards Net Zero emissions by 2030. With over 90 buildings on site, were committed to ensuring that each one complies with our NetZero commitment.
Our ambitious objective, driven by our shareholders and fully backed by our business, was publicized earlier this year, showcasing our commitment to sustainable aviation. Projects across the site will include full boiler replacements, heat source pumps, and integrating charging points for electric vehicles using renewable energy.
This will be a market-leading, exciting, and diverse program of work, engaging with a wide range of stakeholders (up to the board level) and leading various mechanical engineering-focused projects. It includes workstreams that will achieve campus decarbonization, reduced water use, infrastructure for electric vehicles, renewable energy, and reduced energy use-all delivered in a live operational environment.
You will lead the full project lifecycle, from the idea phase to planning, executing, and delivering large-scale projects. The projects you lead will be instrumental in our airports transition to NetZero by 2030.
What is the role?
Reporting to the Programme Manager (Sustainability), your role will involve the technical, commercial, and financial management of a range of projects. Youll be responsible for taking complex projects through various stages, from design and procurement to construction and delivery. Youll focus on high-quality results, confident in the knowledge you have played a pivotal role in helping our airport grow and delivering something impactful for the business and its customers.
Other duties include:
Ensuring projects are completed within the planned budget, timeline, and quality/compliance standards. Also, leading the smooth transfer of projects to the relevant departments, ensuring Airport Operational Readiness planning and activities are in place.
Continuously developing and upholding world-class health, safety, and environmental standards across projects and associated contractors. We aim to achieve health, safety, and environmental excellence.
Uncovering and finding solutions to challenges and risks throughout the projects, highlighting these to contractors, and ensuring project timelines stay on track while the airport operates smoothly without disruptions.
Taking responsibility for fulfilling laws and statutory obligations applicable to the project, including compliance with standards and necessary planning permissions.
Helping the team grow by contributing to the development of standards, managing, motivating, coaching, and mentoring team members. Youll be excited about helping talented individuals reach their potential.
What are we looking for?
The live environment at our airport requires all our teams to have a flexible and adaptable approach, with problem-solving skills and an innovative outlook. Involved in projects from inception to completion, you will work alongside multiple stakeholders. In addition, this role requires:
Previous experience as a Project Manager or Assistant Project Manager delivering large projects or multi-year programs within the construction or infrastructure sectors, typically over 10 million. A background in construction, with a focus on Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, or heating projects, is desired.
Qualified to practitioner level in project management (e.g., APMP Project Management Qualification or PRINCE2 Practitioner).
Experience managing complex projects and stakeholder requirements.
Experience handling several projects simultaneously, especially when they need to work together or overlap.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex ideas in a simple way to multiple stakeholders.
