AWE currently has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Business Operations Analyst. This role would support the delivery and operational capability of the Physics sub-function within the Science function here at AWE.

Location: Aldermaston, West Berkshire. We are located between Reading and Basingstoke, with onsite parking.

Package: £42,530 - £67,200 ( depending on your suitability, qualifications, and level of experience)

The Role

This role will give you the opportunity to get involved with a team that is supporting both the tactical and strategic business focuses for the Physics sub-function. The successful candidate will be a part of the Physics Business Operations Team supporting the Head of Physics in developing, managing, and maintaining the sub-function, to ensure it has the capability to deliver to the current and future programme demands necessary to support AWE s mission.

The Physics Business Operations Team works closely alongside other counter parts across the business to ensure consistency in processes and procedures across the Science and Engineering Functions. The role will support the delivery and operational capability of the Physics sub-function through the delivery and ongoing monitoring of normal business management and associated change programmes expected of a high performing delivery unit.

Some of the areas of work you could be involved with are:
  • Training : Accountable for developing and maintaining the strategic training plan to support the people capability requirements and addressing any identified capability gaps. To develop an upskilling hub, technical training modules and working on career pathways.
  • Functional Services: Providing support to instilling and maintain the functional services.
  • Early Careers: To provide provisions for, and support all, Physics early careers, which include development, accommodation, placements and secondees.
  • Competency: Developing and maintain the tools and framework that best demonstrates competency across Physics.
  • Sub-function: Supporting the operational capability of the Physics management and leadership team.


Some of the key responsibilities are:
  • Support the collating and reporting of data for the Physics VMB, Training Plan and Resource Plan.
  • Manage and implement the tools and framework that best capture key the training requirements across the Physics which align with the people capability strategy.
  • Support and develop functional services, engaging with all key stakeholders from across the business.
  • Manage, develop, and implement the tools and framework to demonstrate competency across Physics.
  • Support the Head of Physics and Physics Business Operations team with managing the sub-function, company initiatives and any other reasonable duties align to this position.


Who Are We looking For?
  • A vision on how to implement, maintain and develop the sub-function's engagement with functional service stakeholders to meet the current and future programme requirements.
  • Demonstrate the ability to approach a problem with a tactical forward-thinking mind.
  • Previous experience of working with a range of stakeholders; Controlled Account Managers (CAMs), Project and Task Managers to deliver against an integrated business plan.
  • Previous experience in understanding resource balancing and the effects on programmes, and the impact on the sub-function (Physics) and function (Science).
  • Previous experience in supporting functional transformation activities and identifying capability gaps.
  • Previous experience as a supervisor or line manager, leading and managing a diverse team to deliver high quality work against challenging timescales, whilst meeting the customer requirements.
  • Previous experience in identify vulnerabilities and implementing corrective actions.
  • Extensive experience in presenting high level metrics in a meaningful way for trend analysis to a wide range of audiences.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to form strong stakeholder relationships.
  • G ood business acumen with experience supporting a variety of business disciplines.
  • Computer literate with a good working understanding of Microsoft Office (particularly Excel, Power BI, Power Automat) and SharePoint.
  • Excellent delivery track record

Important things you need to know:
  • You must be a British citizen who has been resident in the UK for the past 10 years.
  • Interviews will be 90 minutes in length and will be held over Microsoft Teams. You will be required to prepare a 10-minute presentation in advance.
  • Candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role. This will be funded by AWE.
