Location: Southampton
Salary: £40K+ per annum, DOE + Annual company bonus!
Contract: Full-time, permanent
Hours: Monday-Thursday (8:30-17:00) and Friday (8:30-16:00)

Custom Covers was established in 1984 as a cover maker to the marine trade!
The company has since diversified into the events industry and other complementary areas where it currently derives most of its revenue. The Company s primary goal is to be recognised as the supplier of choice in the covers, marquees and decorative linings market. Typical examples of our work are the tent for Bake-off and Grand tour and awnings for warships.
The firm is a medium-sized organisation currently employing over 60 people from its base in Southampton. The staff are drawn from the local sail making, cover and upholstery industries with a high technical skill level and the ability to bespoke equipment to customers requirements. Custom Covers is an ISO9001 accredited company, holding a certificate issued by Lloyds Register.
Senior Design Engineer The Role
Custom Covers is looking for an enthusiastic Senior Design Engineer to join the busy Technical Department of a well-established family business!
This is an outstanding and rewarding opportunity to further your career within a technical team, working in a modern, forward thinking environment. The role will suit a team player with good numeracy, management potential, computer skills and an engineering training.
You will be responsible for producing manufacturing information and developing new products and will join an agile team using AutoCAD and SolidWorks to prepare designs and drawings for fabrication and customer review. The role will include acting as deputy departmental manager.
The role will include promoting sales for the company, the development of new products and the Project management of nonstandard projects. A successful candidate has the opportunity to grow in the role and potentially become a member of the companies management committee.
The role is responsible for the accurate description of items bought and sold, accurate preparation of CAD drawings and computer cutting files and working within the company administrative procedures. The role also encompasses the development of 3D shaped surfaces and reducing these to 2D cutting files.
The job is Southampton based but will include occasional visits to site to measure and agree design details.

Skills & Experience
Essential;
• Has necessary skills to produce high quality and timely drawings for Production and for sub-contracting using AutoCAD.
• Has the ability to generate sales for the company.
• Is comfortable to work and manage a team.
• Has ability to visit customers and measure accurately.
• Has a clean and valid UK Driving License.
• Has understanding of structural calcs and can interpret calculations by others.
• Has computer literacy with Microsoft products, MS Word & Excel.
• Use will also be made of the companies integrated management system Microsoft Dynamics NAV, however, training will be given where necessary.
Desirable:
• Academic qualifications equivalent to degree level.
• Knowledge of temporary buildings, textile manufacture and/or 3D modelling software.
