Senior IT Infrastructure Engineer / Analyst - North West (Wigan)

As a Senior IT Infrastructure Engineer / Analyst at Murphy you would be part of the Core Technical team, responsible for the daily management and administration of all IT Infrastructure services across the our UK and Ireland sites and offices. The role involves a high level of management across public cloud services (Microsoft Azure / 365), on-premises datacentres, and core networking components, including the ongoing security and governance of all IT and business technology services.

What you will be doing:

  • Provide operational expertise across all IT Infrastructure services and associated hardware, software, networking and cloud solutions.
  • Contribute to Information Security processes across a number of technology services, ensuring that all IT Infrastructure solutions are securely built and run in line with best practice and company policies.
  • Assisting the technical and leadership teams to deliver a cost-effective service that meets the operational and commercial requirements of the business.
  • Working closely with the Technical Architect and Programme function - contributing to the ongoing planning, design, implementation, operation, maintenance and improvement of Murphy's technology estate within approved capital and operational expenditure budgets.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to the IT Commercial and Operations teams in the design and delivery of technical Infrastructure projects through bid and mobilisation phases. Maintaining agreed technical blueprints to help standardise project Infrastructure delivery.
  • Provide tactical and strategic guidance within the Technical Design Authority (TDA) when required, ensuring best practices and standards are clearly defined and adhered to by the wider the IT technical team.
  • Maintain appropriate governance across all IT technology services in terms of compliance with company and IT related projects, helping to subsequently drive continuous improvement, best practice and contributing to a high performing team.
  • Actively assist in the design and implementation of long-term strategic objectives and short-term tactical plans for the management and maintenance of future IT Infrastructure services.
  • Provide strong Service Management skills in relation to escalated support tickets (Incidents and Problems) and contributing to the Change Board process (CAB).
  • Build and maintain the relationships and commitment of key stakeholders across the business.

Who we are looking for

  • A dynamic individual who demonstrates technical leadership skills, is an excellent communicator and team player.
  • Ability to understand complex requirements, analyse using an objective mind and logical thinking to produce robust delivery.
  • Experience with administering public cloud services (primarily Microsoft Azure / 365). Must be experienced in the management, administration and mobilisation of services (particularly IaaS, PaaS, networking and security services including the Microsoft Defender suite).
  • Experience of managing and administering virtual and physical Microsoft server environments (including VMWare technologies).
  • Experience of managing and administering identity / directory management services (Active Directory / Entra) within large organisations.
  • Experience working closely with 3rd party Security Operations Centres (SOC).
  • Experience of cybersecurity principles, including threat detection, incident response, and vulnerability management.
  • Experience of managing and administering Microsoft SCCM / Intune / Endpoint Manager for modern device management.
  • Core networking concepts including (TCP/IP, switching and VLANs, VPNs, routing and corporate Wi-Fi solutions).
  • Usage of technology (including scripted and automated techniques) to replace manual processes and improve operational efficiency across the wider IT team.
  • Industry qualifications are desirable - Microsoft Azure / 365 (AZ-104, AZ-305, AZ-700)
