The opportunity

We have a unique opportunity for a Solicitor to join our nationally renowned and highly regarded Charity team, either based from our London or Cambridge office, this role also offers a hybrid working environment, with two days in the office per week.

The successful candidate will be involved in all areas of law and practice relating to charities and social enterprise, but is likely to have a particular focus on educational charities particularly schools.

The current case load of the Charity and Social Enterprise Team contains a mix of the following: -

  • Charity governance
  • Major project work
  • Restructuring, mergers and other transfers of businesses and assets
  • Funding initiatives
  • Formation of new charities and other social enterprise vehicles
  • Charity constitutions including Charity Commission schemes and orders
  • Legal audits
  • Trading structures
  • Commercial partnerships and other contracting, for instance shared resources agreements between charities and their subsidiaries
  • Charity Commission Inquiries and other Charity Commission monitoring and investigation including assisting with Interim Manager work
  • Charity litigation, including the Charity Tribunal.
Key Responsibilities

General responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Effectively manage an individual caseload (with supervision where appropriate)
  • Attend to clients of the Firm in the office or elsewhere if needed.
  • Support colleagues on matters, including on transactional charity matters.
  • Work in a collegiate and collaborative way within an immediate Team and wider Firm environment.
  • Communicate promptly and effectively both internally to colleagues and externally to clients.
  • Continuing your professional development and staying updated with legal developments in the field
  • To carry out your work for both colleagues and clients to the highest possible standard, having regard to the Firm's standards, procedures and core values.
  • To regularly attend, and be involved in preparation for, Team meetings.
  • To attend and be involved in preparation for marketing and business development events and activities.

Essential

  • Qualified Solicitor with solid experience in drafting, file management, and client relationship building.
  • Possess a real interest in the Charity sector.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and contribute effectively
  • Excellent communication skills, both internally with colleagues and externally with clients
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development and a desire to further your knowledge in the field of law
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail

Desirable

  • Prior experience in providing legal advice to Charities and Social Enterprises or working on corporate transactions.
