Since 2007, StreetGames has been working with organisations focused upon improving the quality of life in the most disadvantaged and underserved neighbourhoods across the UK, transforming young people's lives through sport. We have a committed team of over 80 staff and in 2022/23 our turnover was £12.1 million.
Our challenge is significant. In 2024, there are over 4 million children and young people living in poverty across the UK - 80% live in the 30% most deprived communities.
Families in the lowest income bracket have as little as £3.65 per week to spend on sport and active leisure, less than the cost of a swim. Children and young people from low-income backgrounds are half as likely to be members of sports clubs; half as likely to have spectated at a live sporting event and half as likely to have taken part in sports volunteering as their more affluent peers. Our research tells us this is not down to lack of desire or apathy. StreetGames believes access to sport is a right and not a privilege.
A large part of our work involves supporting a network of over 1,600 local organisations- from youth clubs and community groups to housing associations, leisure trusts and local authorities. These organisations are trusted and ideally placed to support young people in low-income, underserved communities, by offering a safe place to be active with trusted coaches and organisers who know their neighbourhood and the young people who live there.
With our years of experience, and status as trusted sector leaders, we are proud to support each and every one of the organisations in our network through knowledge and insight, help with sustainability and investment, practical tools and resources, networking opportunities and more - empowering them to do what they do best: creating positive change in the lives of young people through sport and physical activity.
StreetGames also works to change the environment around these organisations in favour of our beneficiaries. This aspect of our work includes advocacy with local and national government and supporting change in longstanding sports organisations like National Governing Bodies.
