My client is an international specialist in the defence sector especially relating to maritime projects

Role
To ensure that the V&V Test Team has the right capacity & capability of people, processes and tools to meet anticipated business needs.

Programme Planning

• requests to deviate from defined standards and procedures
• Guidance in creation of management plans
• Approve and signatory of Management plans
• Review and approval V&V aspects of Development Estimates
• Provision of expert discipline advice in the selection, application and interpretation of standards
• Attend project/phase kick off meetings
• Ensure that the Engineering teams agree with estimates that support the approval of Programme EACs
• Approval of an appropriate suite of plans, standards and procedures for the V&V work, and the approval or rejection of

Tracking & Reporting

• Ensure that Programme plans are realistic and are kept up to date with Engineering team agreement
• Ensure positive work, improvements, actions and opportunities are reported
• Ensure actions/risks are listed and reported if any escalation is required, proactively chase actions to conclusion
• Lead regular audits against management plans, standards and procedures
• Ensure that the Engineering teams agree with estimates that support the approval of Programme EACs
• Lead the decision making processes for exceptional activities or circumstances, and deviations
• Lead risk reviews, programme reviews and design reviews as required

Line management & Programme Resourcing

• Ensure all programme teams are adequately resourced with suitable trained SQEP engineers
• Ensure you and team leader are proactive for recruitment
• Ensure Team Skills and Competencies are maintained.
• Conduct regular people management: team meetings, 1-1s, career discussions, mentoring, coaching
• Conduct regular continuous improvement team discussion to improve efficiency.
• Plan and implement UWB V&V team organisation structure.

Design, Development & Qualification

• Drive for industry best practice for engineering verification, validation and qualification.
• Ensuring designs comply with approved management plans, using approved design methods, competent personnel,

• effective delivery systems and design processes
• Act as a member or chairman of Design Review boards - support decision making, and ensuring actions relevant to V&V
• are closed in a timely manner.
• Ensuring design deliverables are appropriately reviewed and checked by competent persons via single discipline and
• inter-discipline checks
• Approval of appointment of technical leads
• Approval of SQEP report
• Auditing

Review and Audit

• Periodic self-assessment, review and audit of the V&V team adherence to:

o design standards
o methods
o skills and competencies
o processes & procedures in the quality system.

Competency/Skill requirements -Essential

• Must be a confident people manager with demonstrable experience, previous people management experience is essential.
• Experience and background full understanding of systems engineering and delivering complex (safety) projects through the V model.
• Understanding of environmental qualification and test methods from Def Stan 00-35
• The understanding and experience of using Agile techniques.
• Good understanding of software test tools and script languages (e.g. Python).
• Experience to automated Test Benches
• Experience in text and calculation programs
• Rigorous, well organised, team worker, good interpersonal abilities.
• Confident communicator, both written and verbal.
• Highly organised, self-managing, able to manage multiple activities at any one time.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, able to engage effectively with all audiences/stakeholders at all levels in the organisation.
